At Old Shenfield Place, we care for residents through every stage of later life, including palliative care. When your loved one is nearing the end of their life, the priority shifts to become more about comfort, calm and making sure both the resident and their family feel supported.
Even though Old Shenfield Place is not a hospice, we’re still able to provide dedicated, compassionate end-of-life care.
When Care Needs Change, So Do We
When a resident’s health takes a turn, we know exactly how to respond. That might mean bringing in extra nursing support, adjusting pain relief or making the room quieter and more comfortable, allowing for quality family time. Because we know our residents well, we often step in before a request is made, reducing any pain and ensuring your loved one receives the appropriate care at the right time.
Familiar Faces, Familiar Place
For many families, keeping their loved one in a place they know with staff they recognise matters more than anything else. End-of-life care needs to feel safe, steady and respectful without being too clinical or unfamiliar.
One resident’s family recently shared:

When my husband’s needs required more nursing, Beatrice stepped up and provided all that was necessary. Solomon was also excellent in the final hours and we thank him. It has been a shock to us that things changed after such a lovely photo at your garden VE Day celebration. We were happily married for 58 years and now my husband is at rest and I count myself lucky to have shared the years with him. I will miss him. We have made it known that Old Shenfield Place gives care and compassion of the highest calibre and that all staff are excellent.”
