Old Shenfield Place Celebrates Unsung Hero Award for Michael Howe
Old Shenfield Place is proud to share that long-standing team member Michael Howe has been commended in the Unsung Hero category at the Essex Care Sector Awards 2025.
Michael first joined Old Shenfield Place in 1985 and is now Head of Maintenance. Over four decades, he has supported residents and staff with remarkable dedication and commitment to making life better for everyone in the home.
Michael has designed and built several much-loved areas in the home, including the Old Shenfield Place Cafe, the Namaste Sensory Room and the home’s own seaside space for residents who can no longer travel. He developed these projects after listening to residents’ ideas and wishes, and each one has become a valued part of daily life in the home.
Michael is known by residents for his practical skills and also for the time he takes to talk to them, drive the minibus to outings and support requests whenever he can. Residents often describe Michael as a much-loved part of life at Old Shenfield Place.
He regularly helps at Ardtully Care Home and is known for stepping in when colleagues need support, whether that’s fixing something or offering a lift.

Cristina Duran, Manager of Old Shenfield Place, said:
“Michael always puts residents first. His dedication, kindness and endless creativity have turned the home into a place our residents love. We are all so incredibly proud to see him recognised in this way.”
The Essex Care Sector Awards celebrate outstanding contributions across the sector, recognising individuals who make a positive difference to care communities in Essex.
The whole team at Old Shenfield Place would like to congratulate Michael and thank him for his long 40-year service. His work has had a wonderful and lasting effect on the home and the people who live here.
